BALZAC

(1898)

Emile Zola commissioned Rodin, on behalf of the Société des Gens de Lettres, to design a statue of the novelist Honoré de Balzac who has died in 1850.

The crouching woman

(1880-1882)

Like "The Thinker" and many other well-known figurines the "Squating woman" is based on a figure from the tympan of the Gates of Hell, a bronze portal meant for the Musée des Arts Décoratifs which was never finished.

The young Mother

(1885)

the theme of mother love does not occur often in Rodin's work, except for a period around 1885. Apparently, it then played a big part in his life.
